TV first came free over the airwaves to homes via advertising segments on shows. But, cable then satellite added hundreds of channels and higher quality of service and the entire market changed to be subscriber plus advertising. TV is now popular on the internet as well. But, we’re about to see millions of phones able to show live TV broadcast on 6-8 different channels on cell phones equipped with new broadcast radios. Some will produce content while others will provide the underlying technology. Some say that mobile TV will eventually outpace the entire cable and internet TV market due to having over 3 billion active subscribers by 2012.
