What does it take to successfully brainstorm, research and evaluate concepts for innovative products? Nathan Myhrvold, who has been in the innovation trenches for more than twenty years, will share his experience and vision for the future of invention and innovation at this members-only Churchill Club breakfast. He holds 19 patents and has more than 100 patents pending.
In 1986 Myhrvold’s company, Dynamical Systems, was acquired by Microsoft. During his 14-year tenure at Microsoft, he held various positions including serving as the company’s first Chief Technology Officer. He was responsible for founding Microsoft Research and numerous technology groups that resulted in many of Microsoft's most successful products. He has extensive experience successfully linking research to product development and commercialization.
In 2000, he founded Intellectual Ventures, or IV, a combination private-equity fund and innovation hothouse, where he is focused on a variety of business interests relating to the funding, creation and commercialization of inventions.
Fortune magazine called Nathan Myhrvold “a nerd's nerd, an exuberant and charismatic polymath [a person of great learning in several fields of study] with a rollicking laugh, the rumpled look of a science professor, and an armload of academic credentials.” As Fortune goes on to say, “He has a master's in geophysics and space physics from UCLA, a Ph.D. in theoretical and mathematical physics, and a master's in mathematical economics from Princeton. He's also a paleontologist, a prize-winning photographer, and a gourmet chef.”
